General information about the Research Department

Scientific activity is a key strategic direction in the functioning of every higher education institution, and Sumy National Agrarian University (SNAU) is no exception. Its significance is emphasized at the level of national policy — according to the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education,” a university is defined as a multidisciplinary institution of higher education with the fourth level of accreditation, which:

  • conducts educational activities across a wide range of natural, humanitarian, technical, economic, and other fields;
  • carries out fundamental and applied scientific research;
  • acts as a leading scientific and methodological center;
  • possesses a well-developed infrastructure of scientific and educational-production units;
  • ensures a high level of human and material-technical resources;
  • promotes the dissemination of scientific knowledge and engages in active cultural and educational work.

SNAU fully meets this definition. The university’s scientific activity is a cohesive, strategically organized system that encompasses both academic research and its practical application in the agro-industrial sector of the region and the country as a whole.

The main objectives facing SNAU include the development of scientific foundations for the advancement of the agro-industrial complex of Sumy Region and Ukraine, the creation of innovative solutions, and the implementation of scientific results in practice. To achieve these goals, the university employs a strong scientific potential: 72 Doctors of Sciences and Professors, 242 Candidates of Sciences, of whom 199 hold the title of Associate Professor. These specialists form the scientific foundation of the university, lead research projects, educate the next generation of scientists, and actively participate in both national and international scientific projects.

Mission of the Research Department

The mission of the Research Department (RD) of Sumy National Agrarian University (SNAU) is to ensure a high level of organization and implementation of scientific research, the introduction of innovative developments, the integration of scientific achievements into the higher education system, and the promotion of sustainable development in the agro-industrial sector.

We focus on informing, supporting, and motivating researchers, creating favorable conditions for the formation of strong scientific schools, and securing adequate funding for research projects. An essential part of our mission is preparing a new generation of scientists capable of shaping the future of science and technology both in Ukraine and internationally, as well as implementing an effective strategy for the scientific development of the university.

Sumy NAU strives to become a research-intensive, globally oriented university that demonstrates leadership in both fundamental and applied research.

The RD of SNAU envisions its future as a center for innovative development, interdisciplinary scientific synergy, and international partnership. The university aims to be a leading scientific platform that brings together researchers, students, and external partners to address current challenges in the agricultural, biotechnological, environmental, and socio-economic spheres. We adhere to the principles of open science, academic integrity, social responsibility, and a focus on sustainable development.
