The seminar “Ways of Livestock Development of Sumy Region” was held at Sumy National Agrarian University. The meeting was attended by representatives of the scientific sector, entrepreneurship and local authorities, who discussed the establishment and development of the Association of Livestock and Poultry Raisers in Sumy region.
“The establishment of the Association of Livestock and Poultry Raisers, which will also include pig breeding, will set a positive precedent in the country, as producers and scientists have united at the regional level to achieve common goals. We will have a platform where we will solve issues not only at the regional, but also at the national level”, Volodymyr Ladyka, Rector of Sumy National Agrarian University, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, Academician of NAAS of Ukraine said.
Taras Savchenko, First Deputy Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration, noted that the regional administration clearly monitors and understands the real state of the livestock industry in the region and understands the problems that exist nowadays. By joint efforts we will be able to implement projects, establish effective processing in our region, provide branding and support the innovative developments of SNAU. We, as the authorities, can assure you that we will have a dialogue with the association and we hope that we’ll get success in this process.
Oleksandr Maslak, Director of the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the Sumy Regional State Administration, spoke about the state and regional support of the livestock industry, as well as the status of Sumy region breeding farms. “The main purpose of the Association will be the coordination of economic activities to promote the creation of organizational, economic, legal, social conditions, scientific and innovative consulting necessary for sustainable development of regional production of livestock and poultry,” Oleksandr Maslak said.
Yuliia Pavlenko, Head of the Department of Technology of Production and Processing of Animal Products and Cinology, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor of Sumy NAU, spoke about the preservation of brown cattle in Sumy region. “Working with the Lebedyn cattle breed, we have created a general scheme that avoids inbreeding. We used a unique world gene pool – the original brown breed from Germany. The Germans supported us and provided us with 600 spermodosis of breeding bulls, which we could use to inseminate the uterine population of the region. In the process of research we reached a new level, because we did it on the basis of foreign research and as a result we got A2 milk, which is already sold in stores. The unique feature of brown cattle will allow to preserve the Lebedyn cattle breed, to support the Ukrainian brown dairy breed and to preserve the Sumy type ”, Yuliia Pavlenko said.
“We should unite and create a structure within the association that will improve the skills of specialists of enterprises and we should do it in our region, but not to go to other cities of Ukraine. We will also take into account the issues and transfer knowledge from business and administration to the worker ”, Ihor Voshchenko, a co-owner of “Ryabushkivskyi Bekon” LLC, Ryabushki village, Sumy district, said.
“We took part in the project because it was interesting for us and we have never worked with brown breed before. At the beginning of 2021, 4 breeding bulls from the best cows in their herds were selected at the age of 10 to 14 months and transported to the base of our company. So far, more than 20,000 doses of sperm have been frozen, which have already begun to be sold on farms. All 4 bulls were tested and have A2A2 beta-casein and BB papa-casein, which fully meets the best breed standards, ” Dmytro Yamkovyi, the director of the Ukrainian Genetic Company (Oliyivka village, Zhytomyr region), said.
As a result of the meeting, further steps for establishment of the Association of Livestock and Poultry Raisers in Sumy Region were planned and the ways of cooperation between science, government and business were discussed.
