On 24 February 2022, every Ukrainian woke up in a different reality. Instead of the usual sound of birds singing, we heard explosions, and instead of the sun, we saw planes in the sky. Our lives were turned upside down.
Two years passed. 2 years since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. 2 years of our resistance and struggle for independence and sovereignty. 2 years of unspeakable pain.
We learned to live in a new world. Instead of sports, we took up the habit of making donations every day, we united and became a big family called ‘Ukraine’. We wove camouflage nets and made trench candles. We rejoiced in every victory at the front and felt the pain of defeat and grief. We supported the educational and scientific fronts, built businesses, and worked hard. We are civilians.
We went to attack the enemy with mchine guns in our hands. We dug trenches, which became our ‘home’ and shelter. We created strategic plans and tried to do our best to win back every piece of the territory of our Homeland. We left our families and lost our lives for the sake of peace. We are military men.
Since that black day in our country’s history, we have only grown stronger. We have turned from victims into a mighty Ukrainian nation that has stood and will continue to stand.
On this day, I would like to bow my head low to those who gave their lives for our peaceful sky, who left their families, homes, and jobs and decided to defend the state. Our gratitude to our heroes is boundless.
We will stand and overcome! Glory to Ukraine! Glory to our Heroes!
