A New Aquaculture Laboratory Was Opened at the Faculty of Biology and Technology

On May 30, 2024, a presentation of the Aquaculture Research Laboratory was held at Sumy NAU.

It was created within the framework of the AFISHE project “Development of Aquaculture and Fisheries Education for the Green Deal in Armenia and Ukraine: From Education to Ecology”. The laboratory was equipped with funding from the European Commission under the EU Erasmus+ program at the Department of Genetics, Breeding and Animal Biotechnology of the Faculty of Biology and Technology.

The Aquaculture Laboratory of Sumy NAU is the newest research institution. It was created to organize the educational process in the new educational program Aquaculture Technology and to carry out research activities. The laboratory will be used to conduct research on hydroecology, hydrobiology, hydrochemistry, selection and breeding of various types of aquatic organisms.

The event was moderated by Victoria VECHORKA, Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Technology.

The laboratory was opened by Yurii DANKO, Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Activities. He noted this event as a significant step towards improving the conditions and quality of education for students:

“The equipment installed in the laboratory will allow us to conduct research on relevant topics. This will be an impetus for the prospects of further international cooperation in the scientific field and increase the development potential of Ukrainian aquaculture.”

In order to conduct joint research, the agreement “On Mutual Access to Research Infrastructure” No. 7 dated 12.03.2024 was signed between Sumy NAU and the National University of Water and Environmental Engineering in Rivne, which will also deepen the possibilities for further cooperation.

Potential employers were invited to the festive event and congratulated the faculty on the opening of the aquaculture laboratory and wished them effective work that translates into high-quality student training.

At the end of the event, Viktoriia VECHORKA announced the opening of another aquaculture laboratory in the near future, where students will have the opportunity to practice their practical skills in aquatic bioresources breeding.
