On October 25, students and faculty of Sumy National Agrarian University wrote a radio dictation of unity dedicated to the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language.
This holiday was established by Presidential Decree No. 1241/97 of November 6, 1997, and was celebrated annually in honor of the Ukrainian chronicler Nestor, a follower of the creators of the Slavic script, Cyril and Methodius. Researchers believe that the written Ukrainian language began with St. Nestor the Chronicler.
According to Presidential Decree No. 455/2023 of July 28, 2023, the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language is now celebrated on October 27.
The Department for the Organization of Educational Work with Students, together with the Department of State and Legal Disciplines and Ukrainian Studies of the SNAU Law Faculty, invited the university community to support the wave of national unity and write a dictation together. Everyone could either come in person or join online.
The Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language is not only an opportunity to celebrate the centuries-old history of the Ukrainian language, but also an incentive to popularize it in the modern world. At 11 a.m., more than 80 Agrarian Guardians took a pen and a piece of paper and tuned in to listen to Pavlo VYSHEBABA.
The title of this year’s dictation was “The Magic of the Voice”. Ehor BUYALO from the Faculty of Food Technology joined the radio dictation for the first time, and says that emotions are the best:
“I am writing a radio dictation because I love the Ukrainian language and want to support my country. It was a bit difficult, but it’s a challenge that unites. Emotions, pleasant excitement and pride in participation”
Another student of Sumy NAU, Roman HOLIKOV, also decided to test his knowledge and skills:
“It’s not the first time I’ve written a dictation. I joined because I wanted to test my knowledge of the Ukrainian language and support the spirit of unity. I also wanted to make sure that I hadn’t forgotten how to write dictations, because the last time I did it was back at school. Of course, I was a little nervous, but it was more of a positive feeling. I am very glad that everything went well!”
The participation of students in the dictation of unity is evidence that the Ukrainian mother tongue lives in their patriotic hearts, which means that Ukraine will live on – peaceful, united and independent! For Sumy National Agrarian University, this is already a tradition that continues every year, regardless of the circumstances!
