The Day of Defenders of Ukraine is a holiday that celebrates the courage and heroism of people who stand up for our country. By the decree of President of Ukraine Petro POROSHENKO, the holiday was established on 14 October 2014 as the Day of the Defender of Ukraine, and since 2015 it has become a public holiday.
In 2021, President Volodymyr ZELENSKYI signed a law changing the name of the holiday to the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, recognizing the contribution of both men and women to the defense of the homeland. The holiday was originally celebrated on 14 October, the day of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin and the Ukrainian Cossacks, but in 2023 it was moved to October 1st due to the transition of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the UGCC to the new calendar.
This holiday is an important reminder of the value of independence and peace in our country. The family of Sumy National Agrarian University congratulates all the heroes who stood up to defend Ukrainian statehood!
