The students of SNAU joined in honouring the genius of the Ukrainian people – Taras Shevchenko. On 7 March, Sumy National Agrarian University hosted Shevchenko meetings dedicated to the 221st anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birth.
The event was attended by students of the university, representatives of the university library, as well as guests from the branch library No. 7 of the Sumy City Library System. The attendees honoured the memory of Taras Shevchenko, an outstanding poet, artist, thinker and public figure, viewed reproductions of his paintings, got acquainted with interesting and rare editions of literary works and biographical materials about the Kobzar.
The students were particularly interested in the thematic quiz ‘Kobzar’s Life: Truth and Myths’, which opened a new perspective on the poet’s mysterious personality.
On the eve of the anniversary, the winners of the city’s poetry recitation contest ‘Shevchenko Unites Sumy Citizens’, organised by the city’s youth policy department, were also congratulated.
– The team consisting of Diana DEREVIANCHENKO, Ilona SAIKO and Roman HOLIKOV took the second place in the collective recitation category.
– Sofia RESHETNIK took third place in the individual recitation category.
These days, the lines of the immortal works of the great Kobzar are heard in many languages of the world, reminding us all of the unity and invincibility of the Ukrainian people!
