Sumy National Agrarian University hosted a seminar “Academic Integrity in Higher Educational Institutions: Current Challenges and Best Practices”, which brought together almost one hundred and fifty participants from all over Ukraine. The speakers of the seminar presented the experience of forming a culture of academic integrity and its application in overcoming the challenges facing higher education institutions in Ukraine today.
The seminar was made in the format of presenting the experience and best practices of academic integrity both in the European Higher Education Area and in some Ukrainian universities. Speakers spoke not only about the normative aspects of academic integrity, but also about values. Academic integrity is the observance of fundamental values in education and science, in particular: honesty, trust, respect, justice, responsibility and courage.
Technological tools as a necessary component of the academic integrity system at the university today, in particular the innovations offered by the academic anti-plagiarism system StrikePlagiarism, were presented by Anna Chudak – Plagiat.pl Business Development Manager in Ukraine.
Marianna Pyrih, Head of the Educational and Organizational Department of Ukrainian Catholic University, and librarian IrynaPidhorodetska, presented the policy of academic ethics and integrity implemented by the Ukrainian Catholic University.
Overcoming the challenges that arise in the current stage of development of the system of academic integrity at Sumy National Agrarian University was the main focus of the speech of IrynaSkliar, Head of the Department of Education Quality, Licensing and Accreditation. The combination of new approaches to assessment and technological tools, student involvement, organizational work, as well as explanation and learning are the main tasks of the university in the development of academic integrity. The presentation of the director of SNAU library HalynaKomlikova “Basics of citation and styles of reference in scientific papers” was aimed at clarifying the important issues of citation and their appropriate design.
The interest of the participants, the frankness of the speakers and the urgency of the discussed issues, created an atmosphere of open live discussion despite the online format of the event.
