SNAU Shared its Experience in Implementing Dual Education

The case of implementing dual education at Sumy National University was presented during a roundtable discussion as part of the USAID ‘Economic Support for Ukraine’ project.

Sumy NAU has many developments and already implemented ways of acquiring knowledge. One of the newest advanced forms of education is dual education. The exchange of experience on parallel study and employment at partner companies was part of the roundtable discussion on the topic “Implementation of dual education in displaced higher education institutions”.

The event was held on 30 May 2024 with the support of the USAID ‘Economic Support of Ukraine’ Project.

A total seven representatives of three universities displaced from the combat zone took part in the event: Donetsk National University named after V. Stus, East Ukrainian National University named after V. Dahl, and Tavria Agrotechnological University named after D. Motornyi. Sumy National Agrarian University was represented at the roundtable by Yurii DANKO, Vice-Rector for Research and International Activities.

The topic of introducing dual education in institutions of higher education has become extremely relevant since the start of the full-scale invasion. Relocation has affected the ability of students to study full-time, so this form is the best solution to their problems. This way of learning allows students to acquire knowledge in the workplace, working at enterprises and organisations to acquire certain qualifications, which simplifies the overall workload for students, while providing the same amount of information and skills, developing hard skills.

Sumy NAU has already implemented dual education in many educational programmes. Foreign partners were also involved in its improvement. The development of this format of education has a positive impact on cooperation with many enterprises.

Yurii DANKO’S participation was very useful for all those present. He shared his experience of implementing dual education at SNAU and described the steps that can help to implement this approach to education effectively and in a short time or improve its level.

The introduction of dual education is currently an urgent need for many universities in our country. However, the experience and knowledge of universities that already have a successful case study of this activity will help to launch this type of education in Ukrainian institutions.
