Students of Sumy National Agrarian University took part in a three-day student forum in Irpin.
This year the II National Forum of Student Self-Government Bodies was held from May 16 to 19. The State Tax University, located in the city of Irpin, Kyiv region, brought together government officials and students from more than 40 higher education institutions in Ukraine.
The topic of the forum is relevant and urgent. Participants discussed and analyzed the trajectory of student self-government development in Ukraine, taking into account European perspectives and the realities of martial law.
Sumy National Agrarian University was represented at the event by members of the student government: Diana DEREVIANCHENKO, Victoriia TOKAR and Andrii KOLODNENKO.
During the forum, young people had the opportunity to meet and exchange contacts with each other for further cooperation. The applicants plan to initiate similar events at home universities to unite and develop the student body of Ukraine.
During the first day of the student forum, the young people met and talked to Mykhailo Vynnytskyi, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine. The government official spoke about possible changes in the educational process and answered questions posed by the students, including delegates from Sumy NAU. In addition, the first educational ombudsman of Ukraine, Serhii HORBACHEV, took part in the roundtable and expressed his opinion on the current challenges for students. The topics raised provoked a heated discussion between the authorities and young people.
Diana, student rector of SNAU and representative of our university at the forum, adds that the first day of work coincided with the Day of Vyshyvanka, so the atmosphere was working and incredibly patriotic. The young people also united during a flash mob on the occasion of the holiday.
The next day, the applicants presented theses on the problematic issues that students are currently facing. The list was chosen in advance and outlined the areas of educational reform, optimization of the network of higher education institutions, student self-government bodies in the system of quality assurance in higher education, grant funding for student self-government bodies, and the role of the student ombudsman. Delegates of educational institutions had to not only express their opinions, but also to argue them.
The last day was filled with presentations by universities from all over the country. Representatives of SNAU chose the format of demonstrating the video “SNAU is WOW!”, which was created on the occasion of Student Day by 20 forum 23, a Sumy company with the support of the career guidance office.
