Recently the Association “Association of Brown Cattle Breeders of Ukraine” was created in the Sumy region. The initiator of the start of the work was the rector of Sumy National Agrarian University, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Volodymyr LADYKA. As the founder notes on the official Facebook page, the Association’s activities are aimed at providing scientific support to the agricultural sector of the economy:
“I would like to note that the association is designed to ensure a full-fledged dialogue with state authorities, in particular the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine, regarding the development of the livestock sector, preservation of genetic potential and solutions to food security.”
On January 18, the first meeting of the Association’s participants took place on the basis of Sumy National Agrarian University. Representatives of science, government and business determined the Association’s Charter and work plan for 2024, and also discussed the current state of the livestock industry in Sumy region and the country. The state of war and the territorial proximity of the region to the border with the aggressor significantly complicated the work of farms. According to the Department of Agro-Industrial Complex of the Sumy Regional State Administration, the number of cattle has decreased by 8% compared to the time before the start of the full-scale invasion. It is precisely this problem that the Members of the Association ” Association of Brown Cattle Breeders of Ukraine ” aim to solve.
Those present decided on the management team. Therefore, the Chairman of the Association is Anatolii KLYMENKO, and his deputies are Volodymyr TIUTIUN and Bohdan DUMENKO.
In parallel, German partners worked online with the Members of the Association: Frank STUMPENHUSEN, director of the Shpermex company, and Viktor BERTCHIU, director of the Zuchtfi company. The experience and knowledge of both companies is necessary for establishing the successful work of the Association, because they specialize in cattle breeding. For example, Shpermex unites more than 1,500 member organizations to effectively solve issues related to farm management, livestock support, and supply of material for artificial insemination. One of the features of the company is the implementation of artificial intelligence. Frank STUMPENHUSEN assures the Association Participants of their readiness for cooperation:
“You are on the right track. We are ready to support you.”
Volodymyr ARTIUKH, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, also took part in the meeting, who expressed support for the Association’s activities from the authorities and emphasized the importance of the development of animal husbandry in wartime. The state official gave an example of already existing successful cooperation between authorities, scientists and business – the Association of Animal Breeders and Poultry Breeders of the Sumy Region. This is a public organization that has been helping to solve urgent problems and develop this branch of the economy through discussions for about two years.
