CONGRATULATIONS ON UKRAINE’S CONSTITUTION DAY!

Ukraine is a sovereign, independent, democratic, social and legal state. A person, his life and health, honour and dignity, inviolability and security are recognized as the highest social values in Ukraine. The official language in Ukraine is Ukrainian. The people are the bearers of sovereignty and the only source of power in Ukraine. These are articles from the Constitution of Ukraine – the highest normative legal act of our state.

After many years of fighting, our state got the right to be independent, prescribing the main values of the people in the Constitution.  Ukrainians are still shedding blood for these values in a terrible war with russia.

The Constitution of Ukraine was adopted and ratified at the 5th session of the Verkhovna Rada, on June 28, 1996. Voting was difficult. Most of the controversy was caused by issues of language, symbols, private property and status of Crimea. On the evening of June 26, President Leonid Kuchma issued a decree to hold an all-Ukrainian referendum.

Deputies quarrelled for a long time, communists slowed down the process, resisted the pro-Ukrainian Constitution and articles on private property.

Fortunately, the patriotic forces were able to break the confrontation between communists and socialists. At 7 a.m., the coat of arms, anthem and flag were approved, and at 9:20 a.m., the Ukrainian parliament voted for the Constitution.

“We have a Constitution! – the first words of the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine  Oleksandr Moroz after the adoption of the main law of Ukraine. It is worth noting that after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukraine was an independent state for 5 years, but didn’t have its own constitution. We were the last post-Soviet country that adopted the Basic Law.

We congratulate Ukrainians on an epochal and important date in the history of our state. Let every citizen live in a fair, legal, peaceful and independent country. Remember that we are jointly fighting for victory on different fronts for the sake of the bright future of the Ukrainian land – the country of our ancestors and future generations.
