The folk dance group Vesna was founded in 1986. The team consists of students and postgraduates from Sumy National Agrarian University. Olha Hetmanenko has been an unchanging director for more than 30 years.
In December 1998 the group gained the honorary title “Folk Art Group”. In 2016 the team successfully confirmed this honorary title for the third time.
The folk dance group “Vesna” is constantly working on improving the technique, acting skills of dance performance. The group is a participant and winner of many city, regional, All-Ukrainian and International festivals, namely: “Festival-contest of folk choreography named after Virsky “,” Sumy stars “,” Student Spring “,” Sofiivski stars “,” Jump to the stars “,” Dance marathon “,” Slobozhanska autumn “.
“Vesna” repeatedly was met with applause in Macedonia, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Turkey, and Bulgaria more than once.
Team members of folk dance group are students and post-graduate students of various faculties of the university who are amateurs and admirers of folk dance choreography. Every year the team is enriched by new members. One of the activities of the team is the revival of folk choreography of Slobozhanshchyna.
“Vesna” has an active patriotic and public group, which constantly promotes popular choreography, is engaged in youth education and gives preference to the native Ukrainian dance. The main thing that unites the participants of the team is to give love for choreographic art to their audience!
