The modern ballroom dance group “Sway” was created in January 1998 to promote the development of ballroom dance in Sumy, Sumy region and Ukraine as a means of aesthetic and physical education for young people. The group has over 150 boys and girls aged from 5 to 21 years old, as well as hobby classes (study in the group is not limited to age categories) and consists of 3 levels of education: primary, basic and higher.
Today the leaders of the collective are Yurii SERHEIEV – the founder, artistic keeper and choreographer-director; Kseniia Blumska-Danko is the head of children’s dance groups, choreographer.
The modern composition of the group combines not only student youth of higher educational institutions of Sumy, but also young people of school age as the future of the team.
As a result of the professional pedagogical activity of the group, it is active in concert activities and participates in folk art festivals in Sumy region and other regions of Ukraine, participated in concert contests in Georgia, Poland and Bulgaria.
Dance groups of the team are the winners of the Grand Prix of numerous contests, tournaments for choreographic teams of the city, region, All-Ukrainian and International festivals, Championships, contests.
The “Sway” group takes active part in numerous festive events and solemn concerts of the city and the region, conducts auxiliary work in agrarian colleges of Sumy region, vocational guidance work in secondary schools in Sumy and Sumy district.
The group of ballroom dance has repeatedly participated in charity concerts for children who are treated in the regional children’s hospital and in Sumy Baby Orphanage; for invalids and the elderly, for participants of military actions.
For many years ‘’Sway” has developed its own traditions, namely: conducting undergraduate exams by results of studies, creative reports to parents and the public of the city, opening educational seminars, holding weekend clubs, organizing and holding the festival “Meet, here we are” among the first-year students of SNAU, organization and holding of the traditional event “Vienna Ball of SNAU”, which is attended by students and teachers of various educational institutions of Sumy and others.
In 2019, the group of contemporary ballroom dance “Sway” received the honorary title “Model”.
