MORE THAN 50 WINTER ACADEMY GRADUATES GOT KNOWLEDGE TO COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE

Winter is a great time to gain new knowledge and skills. And even quarantine will not prevent it.
Thus, the work of the Winter Academy for Combating Climate Change, implemented by Sumy National
Agrarian University within the framework of Erasmus + Jean Monnet Chair “EU Climate Leadership”
(620031-EPP-1-2020-1-UA-EPPJMO-CHAIR), has recently been completed.
The training lasted online from the 14 th to the 18 th of December. It was attended by more than 50
participants from all over Ukraine. Among them there were the representatives of the Ministry of
Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, the United Nations Program in Ukraine, the World Bank,
the Razumkov Centre, NGOs and foundations responsible for environmental protection, scientists and civil
society activists.
Thanks to meaningful and interesting lectures, participants were able to improve their knowledge
and skills in the following areas:

 Introduction to climate security.
 International climate policy and legislation.
 Climate and social policy issues.
 Climate and its impact on agro-bioecosystems.
Every day the participants of the Academy listened to the experts, performed practical tasks, played
intellectual games, looked for grant projects that would allow them to implement their own ideas. For each
task they got points, which eventually allowed them to graduate from the Academy without taking a final
test. Working in groups participants prepared and defended their own projects aimed at slowing down
climate change and preserving the environment.
The project team consisting of Olena Melnyk, Iryna Vaskina, Maryna Sherstiuk and Ihor Kovalenko
sincerely thanks the speakers and participants for their activity, involvement in all discussions and attention
to such an important topic today as environmental safety in the context of climate change.
We hope that all the projects, developed during the Winter Academy, will be successfully
implemented and will bring Ukrainian society to a new level of environmental awareness.
