SNAU INITIATED THE CREATION OF THE ASSOCIATION OF ANIMAL HUSBANDRY IN SUMY REGION

On May 21 a large-scale seminar-meeting dedicated to the problems of preservation of livestock farms in Sumy region was held in Komyshi, Okhtyrka district. The meeting was initiated by Sumy National Agrarian University.

Heads of farms, the management of Okhtyrka district administration and Sumy regional state administration were invited to participate in the event. First, the seminar participants visited two farms:   “Komyshanske” and “Pavlovske” where the rector of SNAU Volodymyr Ladyka and the head of the Department of Technology of Production and Processing of Animal Products and Cynology Yuliia Pavlenko conducted a review lesson for participants, focusing on high-yielding breeds including those that can give A2 milk.

After the practical part, the farmers went to the plenary session, during which they discussed the most relevant issues of livestock conservation in Sumy region, as well as the development of the processing industry.

Volodymyr Opryshko, the owner of Sumy Сheese Factory O`BEREG, spoke about the possibilities and perspective directions of processing livestock products by his own experience. It is worth noting that craft production of A2 milk and its products was first launched in Ukraine on the basis of this cheese factory.

Yevhen Shatokhin from AGRIFOOD Consulting told about industrial crossbreeding as an opportunity for additional income for farmers.

After discussing all issues on the agenda, the participants came to the conclusion that it is necessary to create an association of livestock breeders in the region. Such an initiative was supported by Deputy Governor of Sumy Taras Savchenko.
