On 20 June 2024, the election of the rector took place at Sumy National Agrarian University. According to the election commission, 873 voters took part in the voting.
Vice-Rector for Academic and Educational Work Ihor KOVALENKO received 788 votes, which is 80.2%.
Professor of the Department of Tourism Volodymyr Onopriienko received 55 votes (5.6%).
19 voters did not support any candidate.
Thus, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Ihor KOVALENKO was elected as the new rector of Sumy National Agrarian University in the first round.
It is worth reminding that the conference of the staff held on 24 January 2024 unanimously supported the initiative of the trade union committee to nominate Ihor Kovalenko, Vice-Rector for Academic and Educational Work, as a single candidate for the election of the Rector of Sumy National Agrarian University. Volodymyr Onopriienko was a self-nominated candidate.
The procedure for electing the new rector of Sumy National Agrarian University was as transparent as possible. Seven polling stations were opened for voting at our university and its separate structural units. The Election Commission and the Organising Committee worked throughout the election. Before the election, meetings with voters were held, where each candidate could introduce himself, his programme, and answer questions from members of the Sumy NAU staff. The administration, staff and students joined the voting.
