The scientific activity of Sumy National Agrarian University is multi-disciplinary and diverse. Preservation of the nature-reserve fund of Sumy region is among the key directions. In addition, one of the indicators provided for by goal 23 of the Development Strategy of the Sumy National Agrarian University for 2021-2025 is the number of developed and implemented eco-centered research projects.

By the decision of the Session of the Sumy Regional Council dated November 10, 2023 “On changes in the network of territories and objects of the nature reserve fund of the region”, five new territories and objects of the nature reserve fund (NRF) of local importance with a total area of 52,227 hectares were announced. In particular, the list includes the landscape reserve “Pshinchyne”, the geological natural monument “Urochyshche Kreidishche”, the botanical garden “Divosvit”, the botanical natural monument “Velikokutsky Dub” and the zoological natural monument “Valy Bilsky Horodyshche”. According to the requirements of the Legislation of Ukraine, the acquisition of a nature protection status by a certain territory (object) takes place on the basis of projects for the creation of territories and objects of NRF.

For all these five objects, the mentioned projects were developed at Sumy National Agrarian University thanks to the activities of project groups headed by Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Viktoriia SKLIAR  with the wide involvement of scientists of the Department of Ecology and Botany, students of higher education in the specialty 101 Ecology , as well as biologists, naturalists and the public of the Sumy region.

The work was carried out on the basis of funding and cooperation with the Department of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of the Sumy Regional State Administration.
