Last week, Sumy National Agrarian University was honored to receive a visit from Dipti BISHT, a representative of IGTI Ltd. Quaternary Geology. Ms. BISHT, who successfully defended her PhD thesis at the University of Cambridge, brought with her many years of experience in the field of landscape evolution, in particular its changes under the influence of military events.

The main purpose of her visit was to familiarize herself with the scientific areas and material and technical base of Sumy National Agrarian University for further cooperation between our higher education institution and the Geography Department of the University of Cambridge.

During her visit, Ms. BISHT visited the Center for the Collective Use of Scientific Equipment for the Latest Agricultural Technologies, the Laboratory of Ecological Farming and Nature Resource Management. Special attention was paid to the Soil Analysis Laboratory, which is part of this center. It is planned to prepare project proposals to study the impact of military operations on soil conditions in Ukraine. Dipti BISHT’s experience in quaternary geology and landscape evolution as a result of military events makes her a key expert in this area.

Ms. Dipti BISHT also shared her knowledge during a series of open lectures for students of various specialties. For those studying Agronomy, Forestry, Ecology, and Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security, a lecture was held on the topic of “Using Artificial Intelligence in the Study of Soil Quality.” Students majoring in Geodesy and Land Management had the opportunity to learn more about the topic “Interpretation of soil quality using spectral methods of artificial intelligence based on GPR data”.

This visit not only facilitated the exchange of scientific experience, but also stimulated the expansion of cooperation between Sumy National Agrarian University and the world leader in science, the University of Cambridge. We hope that it marked the beginning of new opportunities for research on the impact of military operations on soil conditions in Ukraine.
