Traditions through the Ages: SNAU Team Celebrates Vyshyvanka Day

The skilfully executed crosses on the canvas reflect our national identity, and the patterns tell the story of the people – free, independent, spiritual Ukrainians. Vyshyvanka warms the soul and always reminds us of our roots.

Sumy National Agrarian University traditionally celebrates the Day of Ukrainian Vyshyvanka with the friendly family of the university. The student activists presented greetings in the form of an incendiary flash mob to the staff and students, reminding them that the national shirt is also a symbol of love to the Motherland, a loved person, and family harmony (see the link: https://www.instagram.com/reel/C7B6soAt-X9/?igsh=ZHVmYm9ndzU2bHc5).

The university porch is noisy in the morning. Staff, lecturers, students and citizens are gathering. Vyshyvankas surprise with their diversity and uniqueness. Some of them are made in a modern way, while the crosses on some are tens or hundreds of years old. The smiles of people in national costumes spread across the territory.

This year, Vyshyvanka Day events were combined with the Science Day celebration, during which the best scientists and educators of Sumy region, including Sumy National University, were awarded. Volodymyr ARTIUKH, the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, who was present, said in his welcoming speech that the greatest values of Ukrainians are now being demonstrated: spirituality and education. According to the official, this combination will certainly bring the desired Ukrainian victory and will glorify the heroic and wise people in the world.

Performances by the city’s best creative teams added to the mood. Patriotic, positive songs were sung by children – the future of our country. The ‘Artel Fashion’ design studio showed a fashion show with the ‘Free Bird’ collection, which has already been presented at almost every ethnographic festival and holiday in Ukraine and Europe.

Let’s preserve the traditions of our country, its national colour and customs! Let’s preserve the memory of our origins, and then we will not be defeated by the enemy!
