UP-DATED HOG SLAT LABORATORY WAS OPENED AT SNAU

African swine fever (ASF) is the disease that has led to a significant decline in the number of pigs in Ukraine over several years. It is a viral disease of pigs, which is manifested by fever, cyanosis of the skin and common hemorrhages of the internal organs. For humans, African swine fever is safe, but it causes a rapid decline in livestock. In Ukraine, the cases of this disease are reported in every region.
In the absence of vaccines the only possible option for the disposition of ASF is the forced slaughter and disposal of all infected pigs. It has led to a 22% pig decline on farms over the last 5 years and it continues to decline. Realizing their losses, farmers refuse the pig breeding.
The scientists of Sumy National Agrarian University know how to stop the mass destruction of pigs. According to the HACCP, identifying the risks of infectious disease agents on the territory of the pig keeping and the risks of spreading pathogens among the pigs within the farm contributes to their withdrawal. It creates the preconditions for increasing the biosecurity of enterprises and farmsteads. The Hog Slat innovative module provides this opportunity to minimize the human impact on pig production.
The innovative Hog Slat module has already been introduced in SNAU. The ribbon-cutting ceremony of the module took place on March 3. The event was also attended by the General Director of Hog Slat in Ukraine L. Vivant, who expressed her gratitude to Sumy NAU and Rector V. Ladyka for their desire to integrate modern technologies into the educational process in order to provide Ukrainian agroindustrial complex with qualified personnel.
