Sumy National Agrarian University held an organizational meeting with the postgraduate students of 2023. This is a traditional event that takes place before the start of first year training to inform about the specifics of the educational process. It should be noted that during the 2023 admission campaign, the family of Sumy National Agrarian University was replenished with 128 postgraduate students.

At the beginning of the meeting, Yurii Danko, Vice-Rector for Research and International Activities, congratulated the participants on obtaining the status of “a postgraduate student”:

“A postgraduate student is the first academic degree. This is no longer a student, this is a scientist. Therefore, the responsibility becomes greater: to conduct research, fulfil an individual curriculum and defend a dissertation on time.”

In addition, the vice-rector emphasized the timing of accreditation of educational programs, as PhD students are direct participants in it.

Svitlana Yaroshchuk, Head of the Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies Department, spoke about the organizational aspects of training, the responsibilities of applicants and the requirements for postgraduate students. She noted about the official website of the Department of Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies of the SNAU (https://science.snau.edu.ua/aspirantura/), as it is there that you can find any information related to education. In addition, she discussed the challenges of fulfilling an individual study schedule and attending classes in accordance with the schedule. The head of the department also told the students about the regulatory documents regulating further educational and scientific work.

It is worth reminding that PhD students are trained in 12 subject areas of study at 7 faculties. The term of study is 4 years, 2 of which are devoted to attending classes to study methodology and the rest to working with a scientific advisor to complete and defend a dissertation. Sumy National Agrarian University is one of the leading universities in Ukraine in terms of postgraduate training. Almost 100% of applicants successfully defend their dissertations.

In addition, Sumy National Agrarian University has long gone beyond Ukraine in training students of the third educational and scientific level. This year’s graduate students include 8 Chinese citizens and 6 African citizens.
