SUMY NAU: FROM HISTORY TO THE PRESENT

The development of national agrarian sector always needs competent personnel. The Ukrainian people always appreciated those who worked in the fields, in the kitchen gardens, on the farms. That is why Ukraine is called the breadbasket of Europe.

Sumy National Agrarian University has also gone a long way from a small branch of the Kharkiv Agricultural Institute to a powerful, modern, national-level educational center.

Today, it is hard to imagine that once SNAU (at that time the Sumy Branch of the Kharkiv Agricultural Institute named after V. Dokuchaiev) had 50 students and 12 teachers. The university didn’t have such research areas, vast territory and modern laboratories at its disposal.

In 1990 the branch of Kharkiv institution was transformed into an independent educational institution – Sumy Agricultural Institute.

In 1997 Sumy Agrarian University gained the status of state university. At that time there were 4,600 students and 3,320 lecturers. SNAU got the status of national university in 2001.

Today, about 8,000 students study at the university, about 700 of them are foreigners.

Nowadays Sumy NAU is not just an institution that trains students. It is European educational center that takes care of sustainable development of territories and communities, it is a reliable partner in the implementation of Ukrainian and international scientific projects, it is a platform for gaining professional knowledge and professional competence for experts from different corners of Ukraine and from abroad.

Here is just a small part of SNAU achievements that we are proud of today:
