A. Klochko’s lecture on crimes during the war in Ukraine was held on the basis of the the Université Libre De Bruxelles.
On September 22, 2023, Professor of the Department of International Relations A. KLOCHKO held a conference on the topic: “Crimes during the war in Ukraine”. Challenges to the International Legal Order and Faith in Justice” at the Université Libre De Bruxelles (ULB, Belgium). The event was organized at the invitation of Damien Scalia. During the conference, A. Klochko shared the information about the damage caused by enemy shelling.
Russia’s full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022 fundamentally changed the life of the Ukrainian people. These changes affected all areas of society’s life and caused irreparable losses for the state’s economy, which were accompanied by the pollution of agricultural lands, the loss of jobs due to mass forced migration of the able-bodied population outside Ukraine. The criminal actions of the aggressor country resulted in cynical murders of civilians, forced displacement of children, destruction of vital infrastructure of the country, many separated families and destroyed natural resources. Russia’s war against Ukraine made it necessary to develop a complex of effective measures to stop aggression and bring the perpetrators to international criminal responsibility. The lecture is devoted to an overview analysis of the current state of investigation of international crimes and their documentation in Ukraine under the conditions of the legal regime of martial law. The interpretation of the content of certain criminal law norms of the current Criminal Code of Ukraine from the standpoint of the informational component of threats to national security and territorial integrity of the state.
The lecture was accompanied by an active discussion and questions from the audience. Based on the results of the event, other areas of cooperation between ULB and SNAU were also discussed, in particular regarding joint research work.
